My Birth Philosophy

     In a nutshell, the above quote *is* my philosophy.  I look to honor the wisdom you already have inside, and delight in encouraging each family to recognize it, hear it and trust it.   It's the motto I feel I was given when I first began my journey helping other families with their births.  Still, to this day, it holds a special place in my heart, as it reminds me to trust my own heart as well, when I am invited to participate in each family's own unique dance.

     I have been active in the birth field since early 1990, teaching birth classes and assisting at many births.  My birth philosophy is that birth is a natural expression of life and that in most cases, it best unfolds itself in a natural environment.  However, my personal philosophy will not be a basis for judging any family's birthing preferences.  I also believe that it is not just the birth of a baby, but the birth of a family as well, and base my support fully on empowering all in attendance in their chosen roles.

     My goal is to help educate parents in birth and to help create the best possible birth experience within the goals of my clients and within each birth situation as circumstances arise.  I will work my best to help each family stay healthy and low risk, to learn the pros and cons to the most common technological practices of today, and how to prudently set their own goals and priorities.  I believe in the power of a woman to give birth.  I believe that birth works.  I trust in our God-given ability to bring our children into this world in a peaceful, dignified and glorious expression.  I will work with you to share my experience, trust, confidence and knowledge.  I feel it an honor to hold the hands of families and walk with them through this miraculous experience of birth, and consider it a privilege to be invited to witness and participate in each and every miraculous event of new life.
